What is ADHD coaching?

It's about figuring out how your brain works and building practical systems around that. We work together on concrete, day-to-day stuff: routines, focus strategies, managing energy. It's forward-looking, not about processing the past. That's what therapy is for.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy focuses on mental health, emotional processing, and understanding the past. Coaching focuses on building systems that work for your brain right now. A lot of people do both, and they pair well together. If I think you'd benefit more from a psychologist or therapist, I'll tell you.

Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to work with a coach?

No. If you're struggling with focus, time management, task initiation, or organisation, coaching can help whether or not you have a formal diagnosis. Plenty of people find coaching useful while they're still figuring out whether ADHD fits.

Is ADHD coaching evidence-based?

Yes. Research shows it improves executive function, self-regulation, and quality of life. It's recognised by CHADD and the ICF as a valuable support for adults with ADHD, particularly alongside other treatments.

How long does coaching take to see results?

Most people notice a shift within the first few sessions, often just from having a structured way to think about their challenges. Lasting habit change usually takes 8 to 12 sessions. But even one session can give you something useful to walk away with.

What are your qualifications?

I'm upfront about this: I'm early in my coaching training. I'm completing specialised ADHD coaching coursework and working toward ICF accreditation. I bring 15+ years in software engineering, systems thinking as a default mode, and personal experience with ADHD. I adopted the ICF Code of Ethics as my standard from day one.

Why should I choose a coach with a tech background?

If you work in tech, you won't need to explain what a standup is, why context-switching kills your afternoon, or how imposter syndrome feels when you're masking ADHD. I've been there. If you're not in tech, that's completely fine too. The coaching approach doesn't depend on your industry.

What does a typical session look like?

We check in on what's happened since last time and review action items. Then we work on whatever's most pressing for you. Sometimes that's building a new system, sometimes it's troubleshooting why something fell apart, sometimes it's just talking through a pattern you've noticed. We end with clear action items you've helped shape.

How often should I have sessions?

Most people start fortnightly. Weekly can help if you're in the middle of a big change or building new habits. We'll figure out the right rhythm during your discovery call.

Do you work with people outside of tech?

Absolutely. The tech background gives me some handy shortcuts with tech clients, but the coaching approach works the same way regardless of your job.

What is the companion app?

Your BrainPrint is a daily energy-tracking tool built for ADHD brains. You log your energy, mood, and activities through quick check-ins, and it shows you patterns over time. Things like which activities drain you, when your focus peaks, and what environments help you get things done.

Do I need the app to do coaching?

Accepted Answer

Nope. They're independent. You can use the app on its own, do coaching on its own, or combine them. When you use both, the app gives us shared data to work with in sessions, which can make things more targeted.

What data does the app collect?

Accepted Answer

Only what you tell it: energy levels, mood, activities, and reflections. We don't collect browsing data, location, or anything from other apps. Your data belongs to you and can be exported or deleted at any time.

Is my data private and secure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your data is stored with industry-standard encryption. It's never shared with third parties or used for advertising. If you're working with a coach, only you can choose to share your patterns.

How much does coaching cost?

A single 50-minute session is $120. Four sessions cost $440 ($110 each), twelve sessions cost $1,200 ($100 each). The initial discovery call is always free. All prices are in AUD, GST-exclusive until GST registration.

Question 16

Is coaching covered by Medicare or private health insurance?

Accepted Answer

No. Coaching isn't a clinical or medical service, so it's not rebatable through Medicare or private health insurance. If you're looking for a clinical service, I can point you toward psychologists or occupational therapists who specialise in ADHD.

Is coaching covered by NDIS?

Accepted Answer

As of October 2024, the NDIS no longer funds life coaching. If you have an NDIS plan with specific skill-building provisions, it's worth checking with your plan manager.

What is the EAF and am I eligible?

The Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) is an Australian Government program that funds workplace modifications, including coaching. If you're employed and have an ADHD diagnosis, you may be eligible for up to $1,680 per year. Applications go through JobAccess. Check our resources page for a guide.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens, especially with ADHD. I ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations. If you need to reschedule with less notice, we'll figure it out. I'd rather you reschedule than skip a session because you feel bad about cancelling late.

What happens in a discovery call?

We chat about what's going on for you, what you've tried, and what you're hoping to get out of coaching. I'll share how I work and we'll figure out together whether it makes sense to keep going. No pressure. If I think something else would help you more, I'll say so.

What if coaching isn't right for me?

That's fine. Not everyone needs coaching, and not every coach is the right fit for every person. If we're not the right match, I'll do my best to point you toward something that might help, whether that's a therapist, an OT, or self-guided tools like the companion app.
